Opera Cruise 2012
A wonderful cruise crossing the Suez Canal aboard L`Austral
12 Days / 11 Nights
•May 10, 2012
Venice
Opera cruise: Et Vogue l`Opéra « An invitation to journey from the East to the West, our "Vogue l`Opéra" 2012 cruise begins with extended extracts from Giuseppe Verdi`s Aida, commissioned by Ismaïl Pacha.

SUEZ CANAL
The town was born out of a crazy yet ultimately successful project: to link the Mediterranean with the Red Sea and to create in the 19th century a shipping route via a canal. The Suez Canal cuts through 162 km of desert and was inaugurated in 1869 in the presence of Empress Eugenie, then nationalised by Nasser in 1956. Riding around town at the gentle pace of a colourful barouche you can admire the colonial houses with their large balconies which have helped forge the reputation and charm of Port Said.

SANTORINI
First impressions on arriving at this southern island in the Cyclades are that it is mysterious and grandiose. A natural port surrounded by cliffs, the ancient site of santorini is circular in shape corresponding to the collapsed centre of the volcano which erupted here, creating a marine crater that never fails to astonish visitors.

PARGA
Often compared to Mykonos, Paros owes its reputation to the magnificent white marble which was used to produce some of the world`s most famous art works, including the Venus de Milo. In the heart of the olive and vineyard covered valleys lies the startlingly white village of Paros, with its windy streets aflame with geraniums and jasmine.

KOTOR
The lovely fortified town of Kotor is to be found at the end of a complex series of bays surrounded by limestone massifs in a magnificent region of Montenegro. An impressive city wall conceals the alleyways and palaces of a well preserved medieval centre. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the town is equally famous for its colourful folk festivals.

DUBROVNIK
Known throughout the world as the Pearl of the Adriatic, the walled city of Dubrovnik built on a rock has preserved its cultural heritage. Palaces, monuments and white stone churches are in perfect harmony. Long considered as a rival to Venice, traces of its illustrious past are to be found throughout the city which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

SPLIT
Along the Dalmatian coast, this ancient cosmopolitan city and former imperial residence reveals all: fortified walls, towers, temples, palaces and baths. A museum in itself split is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to Diocletian’s famous Palace. Pharaonic egypt, Ancient Rome, the Renaissance and the present exist side by side in perfect harmony.

ROVINJ
In days gone by Rovinj was a peaceful fishing port on the Istria peninsula. Today its picturesque narrow streets lead you down to a marina where fishing boats jostle comfortably alongside modern yachts. You will enjoy wandering round the old town with its sunny terraces.

An invitation to journey from the East to the West, our "Vogue l`Opéra" 2012 cruise begins with extended extracts from Giuseppe Verdi`s Aida, commissioned by Ismaïl Pacha.
For this seventh edition, DIANE POLYA-ZEITLINE, Vichy Opera`s artistic director is paying us the honour of being our Patron. Aboard we have the vocal and speech specialist ELIZABETH FRESNEL who will teach you all there is to know about the voice and secrets of memory. The year 2012 is also an opportunity for us to celebrate the centenary of the death of one of France`s great composers, Jules Massenet. In his company we invite you to discover his great heroines, Thaïs, Hérodiade, Cleopatra, Sappho and Charlotte from Werther interpreted by BRIGITTE HOOL and MARIE KALININE.
No opera cruise would be complete without an Orientalism programme linked to this literary and artistic movement and illustrated by Mozart`s The Abduction from the Seraglio, Cosi Fan Tutte, Rossini`s The Italian in Algiers, and not forgetting If I Were King, Madama Butterfly or Turandot in the company of PHILIPPE DO and YVAN REBEYROL.
As dance is so closely associated with the world of opera, this year we are delighted to welcome the dancer and choreographer EUGÉNIE ANDRIN for a highly original evening where the beauty of the voice and the grace of dance become one. Finally, as you drift into Venice at the end of the cruise we will also be offering you a rare meeting with the counter-tenor FABRICE DI FALCO for an evening of castrato singing.
