Day 1 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Meet our representative at the airport in the morning following your international flight. Drive through Buenos Aires, via comfortable motorcoach, on an orientation tour and continue on to the pampas outside the city for a visit to a traditional estancia. Enjoy a traditional barbecue luncheon, music and gaucho demonstration. In the afternoon, return to Buenos Aires for embarkation aboard the M.S. Andrea. Overnight in Buenos Aires.
Day 2 - Buenos Aires
Following breakfast, join a motorcoach tour of the capital city and cultural center of Argentina that includes the Treatro Colon Opera House, Plaza de Mayo, Recoleta Cemetery, and the Presidential Palace known as Casa Rosada. Afternoon at leisure. This evening, join other passengers for an optional evening dinner and Tango show at El Querandi restaurant. Andrea departs Buenos Aires at midnight.
Day 3 - Montevideo, Uruguay
This morning, our excursion explores the most interesting places in Montevideo: the historic quarter with its rich architecture, the Plaza Independencia, port market, the Parliament Palace and El Prado. We will also drive through elegant residential areas such as Carrasco, Punta Gorda and Pocitos, and along some of Montevideo’s beautiful beaches. Depart early this afternoon. This evening, enjoy the Captain’s Welcome Aboard cocktail party and dinner.
Day 4 - Cruising the Brazilian Coast
On our way north to Florianópolis, visit the observation platform for a bird’s-eye view of the passing coastline, or just relax on deck. In the Kittiwake Lounge, our onboard lecturer will talk about the colonial history of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
Day 5 - Florianópolis, Brazil
Mostly situated on the island of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis—or Floripa, as it is affectionately known to regular visitors here—is recognized for its 42 beautiful beaches. Relax or stroll along some of these white-sand masterpieces, or enjoy shopping in the town’s boutiques and shops. Depart mid-afternoon for Santos and the largest city in South America: São Paulo.
Day 6 - Santos, Brazil
From our dock in Santos, travel via comfortable motorcoach inland to the capital city of Brazil, São Paulo. It is one of the largest, most modern cities in the world, with more than 30 parks and some magnificent architecture. Our full-day excursion takes in the major sights and includes lunch. Continue our cruise north this evening.
Day 7 - Parati, Brazil
Parati was an important trading port for gold in colonial times, and has remained virtually unchanged in terms of its 18th-century Portuguese architecture. The entire town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and our walking tour along cobblestone streets will take in the whitewashed buildings and lovely old churches. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. This evening, enjoy the Captain’s Farwell Dinner as we head for our final destination: Rio de Janeiro.
Day 8 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Our morning arrival in Rio offers a unique perspective of this spectacularly situated city, with Corcovado and Sugar Loaf Mountain towering overhead. The morning is at leisure. This afternoon, join other passengers for a panoramic tour of the city, including Sugar Loaf Mountain and Rio’s gleaming white beaches. Return to the ship for dinner. An optional evening dinner and Samba show at a local restaurant is also available.
Day 9 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Disembark this morning after breakfast (with luggage) for excursion to Corcovado, or “Hunchback” Mountain. There is perhaps no more spectacular sight of any city on earth from the bird’s-eye vantage point underneath the sweeping arms of the famed statue, Christ the Redeemer. Head to a local restaurant for lunch, then continue on to the airport.
